Frequently Ask Questions
Frozen vs Fresh Produce?
The short answer:
Frozen produce is at most times more nutritious than their fresh counterparts.
The long answer:
Fresh fruit and veg is often picked before it is ripe, to allow time for them to fully ripen during transportation (which can take from a few days to several weeks).
This gives them less time to develop a full range of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
Nutritional values begin to decline immediately after harvesting and continue to do so during storage.
Fresh produce is generally stored in a chilled, controlled atmosphere and sometimes treated with chemicals to prevent spoiling during transit.
After which it may spend an additional 1-3 days on supermarket shelves, and then in homes for up to 7 days before being eaten.
Our Grade A frozen fruit and veg is only picked at peak ripeness, and are all individually quick frozen (IQF) within 2 hours of harvesting, locking in the vitamins and minerals, maintaining their nutritional value.
It also gives the produce a much longer shelve life without the use of preserving chemicals.
Studies have shown that frozen fruit and veg retain a similar nutritional value to their fresh counterparts and often many fruit and veg actually retain more nutrients when they’re frozen than fresh.

What is HPP?
HPP or High-Pressure Processing is a treatment used to extend the shelf life of products.
We do not use this treatment on our products.
This treatment, however;
- Destroys active enzymes and probiotics
- Changes taste
- Products which have undergone this process cannot be fresh
All Cactus Products are untreated and we make zero compromises when it comes to freshness, taste and nutrition in our products.
